Roberta graduated in 1995 from the University of Palermo Italy, where she completed a Doctorate in Pharmacy. She then moved to the University of California Berkeley researching role of active compounds at molecular and cellular level. In 1998 Roberta moved to the Wolfson Centre for Age-Related Diseases at King's College London where she registered for a PhD in Biochemistry. In 2001 she joined the MRC-HNR as a Survey co-ordinator of the National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS). Roberta then spent several years in the research environment, where her interests focused on the design of clinical trials to investigate ADME of functional compounds and their relationship to a number of health related issues. In 2007 Roberta moved to Leatherhead Food Research to manage the Nutrition Research Unit which performs clinical intervention studies for efficacy and regulatory substantiations both for the pharma and the food Industries. Having studied part-time she was awarded an MBA from the University of Sussex at the beginning of 2015. In May 2015 she became Director General of the World Sugar Research Organisation (WSRO)


Dr Aaron Lett, Principle Scientist - Nutrition & Scientific Affairs

Aaron graduated from Oxford Brookes University with a first-class honours degree in Nutrition. Whilst in Oxford, Aaron undertook research at the Oxford Brookes Functional food centre, researching the health functionality of food compounds and ingredients. He then moved to the University of Birmingham (UK), where he took up a doctoral research position, in conjunction with the University of Sussex (UK), and was later offered a guest lecturer position, at Birmingham, in nutrition and health, which he still currently holds. His research focussed on the role of food structure in nutrition and health. In 2015 he was awarded a Ph.D. in Chemical engineering (Food, Nutrition and Health specialism). Aaron then joined Leatherhead Food Research, where he was Principal scientist within the Nutrition department, which performs clinical intervention studies for efficacy and regulatory substantiations for the food industry. His main role at Leatherhead, was to manage and develop the “Nutrition and Health” research program. In June 2016, Aaron became Principal scientist – Nutrition and Scientific affairs at the World Sugar Research Organisation (WSRO).
